jeff the drunk replied: "First off, use a better air filter in your HVAC system. My son has bad asthma, and since we've been using the 15$ 3M filters, he's had less problems. We bought two of the Ionic Breeze GP's, they seem to work pretty good, but I dont know. I saw this show last night on DIY,
They had talked about a UV light that goes in your AC exhaust, also look at adding am Electrostatic in there as well. Check it out." how do i dispose of an air purifier filter? mw replied: "Vacuum regularly, shampoo carpets twice a year, and open the windows wide every day during nice weather. Even in winter I try to open windows for a little while at least once a week.
Using anti-allergen shampoo in the carpet shampooer removes (I hope) many of the fine particles that can cause problems.
Wash bedding and drapes often too as they collect a huge amount of dust."
bigdog replied: "get a air exchanger, it hooks into your furnace and it brings in fresh air and sends out old air. (exchanging) HVAC companys could give you a quote."
jaybird replied: "We use an electronic air cleaner (installed by HVAC company) in the furnace. It replaces the tradition media filters that gas furnaces usually use. It works really well and notice a definite decrease in dust in the house. It must be cleaned regularly though (every 1 to 3 months.) Cleaning is easy - just soak in laundry tub or run through dishwasher. More expensive up front but you can save money in the long run because you do not need to keep buying filters. Also we installed a heat recovery ventilator with a hepa filter. (Lifebreath brand) It exchanges the inside/outside air up to 9 times a day and keeps the house fresh. Expensive but worth it. Have people with breathing problems in the house so we must keep the air clean and windows closed." Do home air purifiers really work? Can the units really remove bacteria, viruses, mold and yeast? ChaoticKimmy replied: "My husband lives by the stupid things, but we've had ours forever and I haven't noticed a difference at all."
Chris s replied: "some work but most dont, i smoke in my house every day (weed no grits) so it reallly stinks, i just burn incense and put on a fan and activate one of those standing purifiers, and an hour later my parents can't tell so, works for me. But i think it was only 150 to 200 bucks, so try lowering your price a lot." |
